Since 1971 Greenpeace has been an independent global campaigning organisation that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. Greenpeace is present in 40 countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and the Pacific.
Greenpeace India has been working on various issues related to the environment since 2001. Their work in India is focused on four broad campaigns namely, stopping climate change, sustainable agriculture, preserving the oceans and preventing another nuclear catastrophe. Over the years Greenpeace India has built a strong base of supporters spread across the country.
In July, 2014 - Greenpeace India launched a radical new approach to Solar power distribution in India through a solar micro-grid project for the village of Dharnai in Bihar. Dharnai became the first fully self-sustained village independent of the central power grid. The project is called Dharnai Live and we were privileged enough to be asked to design and develop the web presence for the project. We were asked to design something visual, alive and interactive. We decided to go with a tile layout with dynamic tiles, an interactive map with a drone fly-over video of the village and a visual story/essay platform christened the Dharnai Diaries.
